We have been enriching our summer vocabulary by doing collaborative rainbow writing. Each child in year 1 wrote a sentence, year 2 added adverbs and adjectives, year 3 provided subordinating or coordinating clauses, years 4 and 5 supplied embedded clauses and years 5 and 6 topped them off with some figurative language. Children who speak other languages at home were encouraged to contribute their favourite word to do with summer in that language.
