Y5/6 Enterprise Market

During Autumn 1 project afternoons, the Y5/6 classes were set the challenge of creating their own mini businesses to make products which they could sell at an enterprise market that Y1-4 could visit as customers.

The children in Y5/6 rose to the challenge well and the following selection of products were created over the next few weeks:

* jewellery

*' no-sew' sock bunnies and snowmen

* rock picture holders

* coasters

* LCS community recipe book

* eco-friendly christmas wrapping paper

* snow globes

The next step was to decide sensible prices and then to advertise everything. Soon the walls of LCS were adorned with enticing and informative posters. Additionally, a promotional video with adverts for each of the different products was played in each class during the week before the market was due to take place. This got all the younger children buzzing with excitement and no-one forgot to bring money with them to Monday's market.

The market took place on our rooftop playground, and Y5/6 did a fantastic job at selling almost every product they made. Each class visited the market for a 20 minute slot, and all customers went home delighted with their purchases.

After paying school back for all the materials used, Y5/6 still raised over £200 and they are currently discussing how the money can be best used.

Here are a few reactions from different members of the school community to the enterprise market:

Thanks so much for the market experience. Year 1 loved it and can't stop talking about it! We did an off script money lesson and it was SO useful applying it straight away! Miss Breckwoldt , Y1 class teacher
