Electric Olympic Torches

The children of year 1 and 2 have been learning all about the ancient olympic games. This week we were finding out about the torch relay and how the torch was lit at the Temple of Hera. We made our own olympic torches and made them flicker using another ancient discovery – static electricity. Did you know ‘electron’ is the word in Greek for amber which was the material on which the phenomenon was first observed? We’re more familiar with balloons!
